A Fox International Non-Surgical Hair Replacement Methods
Lace Wigs, Hair Weaving, Toupee & Integration Hair Units
It is not uncommon to be confused by all the different methods of hair extensions and it can be hard to differentiate between all the types of hair wigs and extensions that are available today. Trying to choose the perfect hair extensions varies from person to person and it depends on the hair texture, length, what look you are going for, and what your daily activities are. Human hair requires a lot of upkeep, but best choice for styling. Synthetic hair cannot be curled or restyled and cut as easy as human hair. I always say when it comes to synthetic hair you must love it when you see it, any alterations will alter the look and I cannot re-color or curl it the way you can human hair. I use Human Hair of All Qualities and Synthetic Hair for the methods I provide upon the client’s request. I provide Stock and Custom Units for all budgets and ethnicities.
Lace Wig Types
1. Lace Front Wigs
All the lace wigs are made of wig caps and hair. The term “lace” refers to a fine, sheer mesh that hairs are tied to by hand. A wig labeled as “lace front” means that a piece of sheer lace mesh is located at the front of the wig cap. Lace front wigs can be divided into 13×4 and 13×6 lace front wigs. Both can cover the area from your ear to ear and the front part of your head. 13×6 lace front wigs can cover more and will create a more natural hair look.
2. Lace Closure Wigs
The sizes of common lace closure wigs are 4×4, 5×5, and 6×6 lace closure wigs. This type of wig only covers the top of your head, and also creates a natural scalp within the area of the top of your head, just like a hair topper. You can make freestyle within the lace closure.
3. Lace Part Wigs T and U Part
Lace part wigs, also called T-part lace wigs, refer to the wigs with a T and U-shape lace part covering the area from ear to ear on the edges and in the middle or side parting space. You can find different lace part wigs with different widths and depth inches. This type of wig can create a natural hairline and middle/side part line. But to make it look natural enough, you must keep some of your hair out.
Fake scalp lace wigs are a great look, so you do not have to wear a stocking cap under your wig to give you the natural scalp look for people who have a head full of their own hair.
5. HD Lace Wig
HD lace is a Swiss lace, which is more light, soft, and delicate. And looks more transparent than normal lace. It can melt into our skin more perfectly to make the hairline more invisible.
HD lace is more thin, delicate, and transparent than transparent lace. Great For Full Coverage and to wear ponytails. I use adhesives and tapes for these.
6. Full Lace Wig & Lace Front Sew in Weave with no glue
a. Full lace wigs have a base that is made fully of lace. A full lace wig can be worn with different hairstyles. A full lace wig is 100% full hand-tied, style flexibility and the most realistic look use with adhesive or as glueless. Can be fully sewn in, glued in, or attached with bands and combs.
b. Lace Frontal Sew in Weave with hair bundles and no glue.
Using a lace frontal and hair weaving bundles of choice to match the front lace.
7. Glueless Wigs
If you are allergic to tape or glue or don’t want to use tape or glue? Not a problem, I can design you a glueless wig as a custom or stock unit..
Glueless wigs usually have an elastic net in the crown area, so it will make it easier for you to put on or take off the wig, and they have a comfortable feel. In addition, an adjustable band is added to the back and sides which will make the wig fit your customer’s head perfectly. What’s more, to prevent the wig from slipping down, an anti-slip silicone PU may be added to the front, temples, crown or the perimeter so you will not need to use tape or glue for attachment, depending on the exact design.
8. Medical Wigs
A medical wig is a type of glueless wig. A medical wig is one of the most luxurious and suitable types of wig for customers who suffer from cancer or who have completely lost their own hair (Alopecia).
The bases of medical wigs are of the highest quality and most expensive. We usually use super-soft net or silk top for the base design at the top. A silk top does not have any knots at all so it will look just like the hair growing from your customer’s own scalp. We also use natural and breathable French lace in the front so the front hairline will be invisible and realistic. For further comfort, elastic net is usually used on the crown and at the back with elastic bands on the edges. This means the wig will fit different shapes of heads while also providing a high degree of comfort. Anti-slip silicone PU on the temples and front helps prevent the wig from moving. There may also be metal stays on the temples to help hold the wig more firmly.
Hair Weaving Types
Sew In Tracking
Braid natural hair in circles around the scalp, and then sew the braids flat to the head and sew the extensions directly to the braids. Usually, it takes around three to four hours to finish this kind of weaving.
It should last for up to six to ten weeks. It is not recommended to keep it after that because the hair may mat and cause a lot of damage to the hair and issues on the scalp like product and oil buildup, irritation, and hair breakage
Sew In Netting
Braid the natural hair and attach a net on top to which the hair extensions can be sewn. It is a highly flexible technique. Hair should be thoroughly dried after washing to keep the hair beneath the net from growing mildew. Usually, it takes around three to four hours to finish this kind of weaving. Great choice for thinning and balding spot hair.
This is a great choice for people who participate in a lot of physical activity like exercising or sports since it stays in place. It gives you a natural look as compared to other weaves involving glues.
It should last for up to six to ten weeks. It is not recommended to keep it after that because the hair may mat and cause a lot of damage to the hair and issues on the scalp like product and oil buildup, irritation, and hair breakage.
Drawstring/Topper Extensions
The ponytail or the extension usually has a comb attached to it which helps in fixing it to your natural hair and securing it tightly. Naturally looking synthetic hair is best for all textures of hair and I use human hair weft for strong healthy hair only. Or I will use bonding or hairpins on healthy hair to hold the extension in place. I do NOT recommend any bonding methods on fine thinning hair. The wefted human hair is too heavy and will cause traction alopecia (A Bald Spot). Great for growing your hair out, resting it from chemical damages, special occasion, or vacations. I do not recommend wearing daily week to week, can cause traction alopecia.
Clip-ins
Tiny clips are sewn into wefts of extensions and attach them to the natural hair. Carefully comb the natural hair to cover the clips. Although clip-in hair extensions are temporary hair extensions, they are also less damaging to the natural hair if you Do NOT wear them daily. I do not recommend wearing them daily, because may cause traction alopecia. Great for a special day/evening look and NOT recommended for fine or thin hair.
Full Cap Integration Hairpiece/Unit
An integration hairpiece is aimed at hiding hair thinning and bald spots. It consists of synthetic or human hair that is applied on a scalp that has some hair left on it. It is used mostly by people who suffer from hair loss in each area of the scalp, while the rest of their hair is healthy, strong enough to support the attachment of the integration hairpiece.
Such type of hair system works only with scalps that have hair left on them. Bald scalps, scalps with an advanced hair loss, and sensitive scalps whose hair is easy to pull out are not candidates to use integration hairpieces. The reason for that is that this type of toupee uses the existing hair for its attachment. Therefore, you need to have strong hair to be able to wear this type of hairpiece, otherwise it may not hold and will slip or fall off. The piece is attached using either clips, fusion, temporary glues or by hand weaving. I design many looks also in integration with different net sizes and closures to complete your desired look.
Benefits of choosing an integration hair system
While being a less popular way of dealing with baldness, this type of hair system has some advantages that many people do not know about. Integration hairpieces are a perfect choice for people suffering from hairline receding or bald spots. Great for people who have hair and want longer and fuller hair without sitting in the salon for hours. First, this piece does not inhibit hair growth like many wigs do. It’s net permits new hair fibers to breakthrough. This piece is also much easier to attach, as you just need to attach the clips or sew into the existing hair. Great for thinning hair, damaged hair that needs a break. The application is much faster than hair weaves and is reusable.
Toupee Hair Pieces, Hair Units and Toppers for Men & Women
- Full cap hair replacement is mostly made for alopecia customer who suffer hair loss for large size in the head to help to create a natural looking.
- Monofilament hair replacement is known by long using time, this base is strong, durable and it can be knotted with heavy density wearers.
- Thin Skin hair replacement can be defined as lightweight and made with real or synthetic hair. Its purpose is to cover areas affected by hair loss. Can be hot in hot climates.
- Lace hair replacement systems are very well-known for there comfortable and lightweight nature and for the real-looking lace that blends with the skin to give a natural look hairline. LACE HAIR SYSTEMS are very breathable, and this helps with the active lifestyle of people even in hot months.
Can I Apply My Own Toupee and Lace Wigs?
YES! When using tape and liquid adhesive, make sure that the two surfaces to be bonded (scalp and hair system) are clean, dry and free of grease and cleaner. Remove by shaving any stubble/hair from the scalp area to be glued.
Where is my hairline in the toupee hair?
This is very important. Usually, 3-4 fingers above the eyebrows 3 fingers for a lower hair line and 4 for a natural forehead look. The natural hairline should start where the natural hairline starts. Your fingers should know be on your forehead in front of your scalp. All in all, the hairline is 3-4 fingers away from ABOVE your eyebrows, not even with the eyebrow line.
Which is better to fix the hair system with Toupee/Lace Tape, Adhesive or Clip On?
Both tape and adhesive work very well, it really depends on the customer’s choice, how oily your scalp is, and your lifestyle. A good Toupee Tape and Adhesive that are both medical grade and depends on whether the customer wants to wear it for 2-4 weeks or 5-7 days.
The tape attachment is the easiest to apply and very easy to implement and does not take much time to get used to wearing, usually within a week.
Adhesive has a longer holding power, if your life is quite active, then this kind of adhesion will be the best. The application of Toupee Tape is no different if using a strong hold tape. When using Adhesive, one must take extra care in the application process to not get into hair, over apply and remove carefully with a adhesive remover.
Clip in combs is great if you still have your own hair, combs or clips can be sewn on a hairpiece, so the customer can apply it on his or her own hair without having to use tape or glue and remove nightly. Just remember, wearing clip in can cause balding spots (traction alopecia) from wearing daily.
Combs are usually added to the base of women’s full cap wigs. We rarely see combs on men’s toupees because compared with clips; combs can’t hold short hair firmly. Clips can be added to both men’s toupees and women’s wigs. Small, medium, and large-sized clips can be added, and they can be in a flesh, brown or black color. If a toupee has clips, you can easily wear or remove the toupee at any time compared with attaching with tape or glue.
*Please note that after finishing the application using stronger hold tapes and adhesives, you should avoid washing your hair for 24 hours.
How to Remove Tape and Glue
Now that you know how to attach a hair toupee with tape and glue, let’s discuss how to take it off.
I highly recommend using Rapid Release for removing the units, but this product should not be used for Skin Bases.
If you need something to remove Skin Base Units that can be applied to skin, I recommend C22 or Action Release for those who use No-shine bonding tape, Ultra hold tape, and Ultra-hold glue (my favorites).
For tape with lace bases, you can use Lace Release to remove the hair systems while leaving the tape on the head, and then use the C22 to remove the tape from the scalp.
Please remember to pay special attention to cleaning the tape or glue off the unit thoroughly when washing your hairpiece and NOT putting hair conditioner on the Base of the unit. Putting hair conditioner on the base will cause the unit to loosen at the root and the hair in unit will fall out.
In this case, I usually suggest the customers use a spray-on hair conditioner. Spray-on conditioner is easier to use compared with a traditional liquid hair conditioner.
What is the difference in the different types of hair?
In choosing the hair I look at the client’s natural hair or the look they are trying to achieve. In hair loss most like a natural realistic look. When there is a partial covering of hair, I like to match the client’s natural hair texture. When purchasing hair remember the cheaper the hair is, it may feel harder and be easy to tangle and shed and may not last as long. With proper care units can last 6 months to 2 years.
Each type of hair Is characterized by texture and comes in several wave patterns Including Straight, Wavy, Deep Wave or Tight Curly.
Different Types of Human Hair And Curl Patterns That I Use:
100% Virgin, Remy and Non-Remy
Brazilian, Peruvian, Chinese,
Malaysian and Indian Hair Textures
What kind of hair types are the best when working with weaving hair?
There are various types and virgin hair is known to be the most premium due to its unprocessed nature.
The most common hair textures are Brazilian, Peruvian, Malaysian, and Indian. Due to the abundance of choices, you may try a few before you find out what you like best.
In this article we will discuss hair types a little more to find out the best hair weave for you.
What type of hair weaves are available?
Hair weaves are characterized, first, by the type of hair then further broken down into different textures and wave patterns or styles. These three categories are something you will need to get familiar with as they will be talked about every time you look for weave.
- Human hair – Comes from a human donor and looks most like your hair. You treat this type of hair just like yours, meaning you wash, condition, and detangle like normal. Normally on the pricier side, but since it’s so similar to your natural hair it’s worth it.
- Virgin human hair – An off branch of human hair but more premium and most expensive. This hair isn’t chemically processed in any way and comes straight from the donor’s scalp. This type of hair is durable, long lasting and can be used with heat to alter the style.
- Remy hair – Another branch of human hair. All of the hair cuticles remain intact leading to less shedding and detangling. If maintained properly this high-quality hair can last up to a year.
- Synthetic hair – This hair is made of microfibers making it the cheapest option. It cannot handle heat well, but besides that oftentimes you can’t even tell the difference between fake and real hair.
What type of hair texture is common?
Texture is important when blending with your natural hair.
- Brazilian – The most popular hair on the market and can be found almost anywhere weaves are sold. It’s versatile and can hold almost any style. Brazilian hair has a natural shiny luster, frizz resistant and prone to not matte.
- Peruvian – Most known for its multipurpose texture that allows it to be blended with all types of hair. You can have upwards to 5 bundles installed and it will still feel lightweight. Although lightweight, it still has a thick and coarse texture.
- Indian – Known as the most top-quality hair you can get. 100% unprocessed resulting in thick full hair. It is tangle free allowing for it to blend with all types of natural hair. Versatile, lightweight, and easy to style.
- Malaysian – Has a soft and silky texture. High luster but after a couple of washes it returns to a normal sheen. Due to its sleekness, frizz is unheard of, even in humid climates. Holds styles well and blends best with naturally fine or silky hair.
What are the different types of weave wave styles?
- Natural wave – Perfect style for someone who wants a more low-key hairstyle. Allows you to style multiple different hair styles all in one.
- Loose wave – A loose spiral pattern, that can easily be switched between straight or curly depending on how you manipulate the hair. Very similar to the body wave, but a loose wave curl is more defined.
- Body wave – Similar to a natural wavy hair texture or a wand curl style. Voluminous yet subtle, molding into a S shape, making them easy to manage and style. Tangle resistant and has a shiny appearance.
- Curly wave – Bounces back when wet making it easy to maintain. Not much to style because it has a permanent curl, great for all types of weather.
- Natural Straight – Works best for those who have naturally straight hair.
Although many weave textures are known by a country name, surprisingly they are not always from that specific country. Both India, China and Hong Kong are the largest exporters of human hair used for making wigs in the world.
Natural hair grows through the cuticles from one direction out of the scalp. The finest quality wigs will be more expensive because they have an intact cuticle which naturally directs the hair and produces a natural sheen. Resembling natural hair follicles.
The only way to tell if the cuticles are aligned is to put them under a microscope.
Is it Remy hair?
Non-Remy hair is when the cuticles are positioned in different directions. This hair type tangles quickly and in turn making the wig hard to style.
Unfortunately, the wig industry is unregulated, which means anyone can advertise human hair as Remy without proof of quality or origin. Allowing manufacturers to profit from false advertising.
- Virgin hair is 100% human hair that has never been chemically treated or dyed.
- Remy hair is human hair with the cuticle in one direction, it can also be hair that has been treated or dyed.
- 100% human hair Non-Remy is any hair from a human scalp — meaning it can come from the floor of a hair salon, hair brushes, corpses and mixed with synthetic hair. This is the cheapest human hair you can purchase for wigs, hair weaving and toupees. This is mostly store-bought hair and inexpensive, throw away 1 use hair.
However, human hair doesn’t always mean that the hair is of good quality. There are several stages and processes the hair must go through for it to turn into the wigs and hair bundles we purchase.
Confusing right? So, when people say I saw it cheaper on such and such, now you see why you may need a wig expert designer.
